CALLOUT: This afternoon we were requested by Dyfed Powys Police to provide assistance at the popular Clun Gwyn waterfalls near Ystradfellte to a family whose dog, Domino, a springer spaniel, had unfortunately gone through the undergrowth and fallen 25+m down into a narrow gully ending up at the water’s edge at the bottom of the steep sided gorge right next to the torrent of water coming over the falls.

Team members rigged up a rope rescue system enabling one member to be lowered down. With an assortment of leads, collars and bags he was then able to persuade Domino to come to him. Having made sure the dog was safe and secure both were then hauled back up so that dog and family could be reunited. After a short while the dog seemed to be quite happy again and perhaps none the worse for wear after his ordeal, not so sure the same could be said for ‘Mum’ :-).

With thanks to the various members of the public who helped out and supported the family who were understandably concerned until calls to the emergency services had been made and we were able to attend the incident.

Photos show Domino approaching the top of the gully and being reunited with his owners (photo published with kind permission of the owners)

On a serious note we would urge all pet owners not to put themselves at risk if something unfortunate does happen to their animals whilst out enjoying a walk in the countryside but to do as these people did and seek the appropriate assistance.
