CALLOUT 44/2017: We were called earlier today to assist a female mountain biker who had taken a fall while enjoying a visit to Bike Park Wales. Working with Wales Ambulance Service, Brecon Mountain Rescue Team and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency Helicopter 187, the lady had come off her bike on a down hill section which resulted in a serious break to her lower leg and was also treated for a possible lower spinal injury as well. In a two stage extraction, the attending paramedic was winched first; then our casualty was winched up before being transported off to hospital.
This call extended our exceedingly busy first three months of the year. Reaching 44 calls in the first quarter of 2017 is a challenge for us, it not only puts pressure on our volunteers, but their families and employers too. We wish our casualty a speedy recovery and hope she is back on her bike enjoying the hills asap.
