Callout 86/17: We were called today to a lady with a lower leg injury just off the top of Pen y Fan. a job made much easier due to the help of Maritime and Coastguard Agency Rescue 187.
This was one of 2 calls the teams of South Wales were called to pretty much at the same time. The other call was to assist the Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust in mid Wales. Our colleagues from Brecon MRT managed that call while we focused on the call on Pen y Fan.
Our hill parties reached the lady at the mid point between Pen y Fan and Corn Du and made her comfortable. Placing her in a casualty bag to protect her from the cold and rain. Our casualty had been looked after by a passing nurse so our workload was greatly reduced.
Rescue 187 arrived just as the cloud lifted. The aircraft was able to land on. A quick transfer into the aircraft and she was flown off to Prince Charles Hospital.
That left us to look after Soda! a lovely spaniel. Soda is going to spend a few hours with us while her Mam is sorted out in hospital and a friend is going to pick her up this evening.
We hope her owner will be back up on the hills soon.
